Julia Mangold | New Works on Paper

February 7 - March 30, 2019

Opening Reception: February 7, 6 - 8 pm

Julia Mangold is a Munich-born minimalist sculptor whose work explores form and materiality.  Mangold’s sculptures possess an immense physical presence and the new works on paper convey the voluminous depth and sensuous geometry of her three-dimensional artworks. The bold new series demonstrates Mangold’s multifaceted practice where geometry, volume and proportion find accord.

Mangold densely layers velvety blue-black pigments onto thick papers which absorb the texture and weight of her process. Two wall sculptures will be shown alongside her recent series on paper, which will be presented outside of frames to highlight the exquisite detail, depth and physicality of the drawings.

Julia Mangold has exhibited nationally and internationally, and her work is included in the collections of the Busch-Reisinger Museum, Harvard University (Cambridge, MA), Yale University Art Museum (New Haven, CT), Museum of Fine Arts Houston (Houston, TX), the Museum of Modern Art (New York, NY) and the Deutscher Bundestag (Berlin, Germany). In 2015, Mangold was the subject of a solo exhibition at the Mies van der Rohe Haus in Berlin, Germany.
