VICTORIA ADAMS - Fathom

Inspired by a term used to measure the depth of water, the central motifs in Fathom, new work by Victoria Adams are water, sky and reflected light. Adams balances imagined, yet highly detailed, natural spaces with subtle color and light. The atmospheric skies in her landscapes remind the viewer on how we are inextricably contained by the natural world surrounding us. In this new body of work Adams turns to a more minimal approach in her paintings by focusing on the powerful elements of water and sky that impact us daily.
A highly collected artist who is based in the Northwest, Victoria Adams was born in Columbus, Ohio, and lives and works on Vashon Island, Washington. She received a BA in English Literature from Ohio State University (Columbus, OH) and a BFA from the University of Washington (Seattle, WA). Adams' paintings have been shown extensively over the last 30 years in venues including Zolla Lieberman Gallery (Chicago, IL). Victoria was the subject of a solo retrospective at the Tacoma Art Museum (Tacoma, WA) in 2010, Where Sky Meets Earth: The Paintings of Victoria Adams. Her work is included in numerous public and private collections.
