MK Guth | Instructions for Drinking with a Friend

First Thursday Reception: January 4, 6 - 8 pm

MK Guth’s Instructions for Drinking with a Friend, is a public interactive performance which invites visitors to drink whiskey with a friend inside the gallery. Guth’s art practice is positioned around the rituals and sites of social interaction. Her recent project expertly creates an environment that allows for the possibility of real engagement between two people, complete with the consideration of lowered inhibitions, gently plied with spirits. Every object in the installation was made by the artist and includes a table, two stools, two hand-blown glasses, a custom engraved bottle of whiskey, and a book that states the rules of the performative interactions. Still life ink drawings related to the installation will also be on view.

Guth invites critique throughout her practice, and encourages viewers to question the nature of the artwork itself including elements of the performance, objects in the exhibition, or context of the gallery space.

Instructions for Drinking with a Friend will take place three times daily beginning January 5th. The daily time slots are as follows: 12:00 - 1:00 pm, 2:00 - 3:00 pm, 4:00 - 5:00 pm. Interested parties may sign up for a time slot and will be sent instructions for the performance in advance.
